Developing Balancing Skill In Your Child



Balance is very important thing in developing the child’s skill. Balance will also help a child gain confidence with physical movement. Toddlers and preschoolers will usually have high center of balance and a kindergartner will have more central sense of balance. Gaining balance will also help in developing self-care skills, gross motor coordination and fine motor coordination.

1. Yoga is one of the perfect ways to build balance or gross motor coordination, strength and endurance skills. You can do a general search on the internet to get the perfect yoga class for your child.

2. Create an obstacle course at your home or put objects like thick blankets, pillows, air mattress and couch cushions on the floor where the child walk’s. Try to be more creative like playing pirates game can be fun and it will also make your child walk.

3. You can also build balancing skills of your child by playing some good sports such as dancing, bike riding, karate, rollerblading, roller skating, skate boarding and gymnastics. Make your child to participate in any of these activities to develop their balancing skills. Activities which include turning, reaching, twisting, jumping and weight shifting can also do a good job.

4. There are many toys that are available in the market which can help your child in developing his balancing skills. These toys include trampolines, jumpolenes, pogo sticks, scooter boards, jump ropes, hippy hop balls, pieces of wood/balance beams, Chinese jump ropes, moon shoes, stilts and balance boards.

5. There are also other games including Twister, Simon Says, Hop Scotch and Mother May I which are all fun ways to develop balance with an age appropriate activities.

6. Make your child to lift up one foot while trying to balance or try games such as popping bubbles using your feet or picking up balls which will also help in balance as well as fun to play. Try painting using your feet which can great experience for your child too.

7. Take the child to a park or playground which can be great way to get outdoors and develop balance as well. Make the child to run over the sand and go through an obstacle course by climbing up. Make him walk up the slide and make sure to be safe during this time.
