Vaginal Itching During Menopause

When a women enters from perimenopause to a full menopause, they may experience vaginal itching due to reduce in hormone estrogen. The vaginal wall will also start to thin and it can also cause a vaginal discomfort.
1. The woman’s body mainly depends on two hormones such as estrogen and progesterone to add lubrication to the vagina. A vagina which is healthy will be moist and also become moister when sexually aroused. A vaginal discharge may occur due to infection or any other problem. When the estrogen and progesterone reduce during perimenopause and menopause, vagina will become dry.
2. Always be aware of your diet as the estrogen will be produced from cholesterol. A menopausal women must take fats until it is beneficial for them and not over consume it which can result in heart disease. Drinking too much alcohol and caffeine-containing products must avoided as they also cause dehydration to a woman’s body.
3. Try to add soy isoflavones into your diet which will help to prevent vaginal dryness and itching. Soy and flaxseed has high levels of phytonutrients which can help to prevent vaginal dryness that causes itching.
4. Try to use a natural lubricant including Sylk or paraben and glycerin-free Astroglide. Try to dab grape seed oil on the vaginal area to prevent itching and increase lubrication.
5. Taking medicines for colds, allergies or an anti-depressant can dry out vaginal mucous membranes. Consult your doctor to get a different medication which doesn’t cause vaginal itchiness and dryness.
6. Androgens can help most of the women to keep their libido in gear and if the adrenal glands are taxed due to stress, androgens plummet making you to be receptive to sexual overtures. The vagina will become dry and itchy, and it may also hurt while having an intercourse. To avoid this control manage stress by doing exercise and get enough sleep.
7. Using oral estrogens can cause lot of problems such as invasive breast cancer, myocardial infarction, risks of stroke and deep vein thrombosis. Topical estrogen cream are also expected to carry the same risks. It is better to consult a doctor before using any medicine to avoid any kind of problems.
