1. Menopause: This is experienced at the age from 45 to 55 which is noticed by menstrual cycle being sparser than at the time of perimenopause. Menopause starts when there is continuous decline of estrogen levels. The most usual symptoms of Menopause are hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, skin flushing, insomnia, etc. To analyze the Menopause blood tests may be done to measure luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone and hormones estradiol.
2. Perimenopause: This is the 2 to 8 yr phase immediately after the onset of menopause and usually known as menopause transition. During this period the hormone estrogen will decline which will make menstrual cycles to become heavier, sporadic, lighter, shorter or longer.
3. Premature Menopause: This is an experience that will be faced by the women before the age of forty and while facing premature menopause symptoms like mood swings, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, etc. Women facing premature menopause may have more risks of having brittle bones than compared to women who experience menopause at forty.
4. Postmenopause: This can be expected when period does not occur for 12 months and the symptoms of menopause will be high at this time. While facing perimenopause and menopause, women will be informed to take birth control pills which will control the cycle and reduce the symptoms. But in postmenopause this will not provide more support and a usual treatment will be needed such as HRT or hormonal replacement therapy.
