Root Cause for Poor Child Sex Ratio
The census 2011 results show that there are just 863 girls for every 1000 boys in the country. As one heads to states like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, etc the ratio gets all the more poor. Female feticide is found to be a major cause in many of these states for ratio discrepancies. This also brings other issues to the fore like the harassment borne by women and other household menaces met to her. But keeping all this issued aside, one should understand that religion, legacy and social customs are regarded as the three important pillars around which women and her fate is stuck. Religion is an other factor for the perpetrators of female genocide.
More over studies shockingly reveal that women themselves have been equal partners in committing crime against women. But heading to the root cause of genocide, it is very much in the perceptions of the people. From the inception of the fetus to the birth of the baby girl child and then bringing her up, it is always fed in people’s mind that the girl child is regarded as a heavy burden to her parents then to the husband and in-laws and finally to the society. More over girl child is not thought of bringing any wealth or name to the family and so she does not become a good investment for the society as such.
