Dealing With Increased Triglyceride Levels

Increased triglycerides can also increase the risk of problems such as stroke, cardiovascular and pancreatitis. It can be obtained from eating foods that are manufactured by the liver which produces the sufficient levels of triglycerides in the body. After eating these foods, the body will use the calories for energy and remaining calories will be changed into triglycerides. Here are few ways for treating an increased triglyceride levels.
1. Go to a doctor to get blood triglyceride test. Also determine your baseline measurement before making any lifestyle or dietary changes to reduce triglyceride levels before going to a doctor for treatment.
2. Inform the doctor if you are following any medications before treating the increased triglyceride levels. Medications including protease inhibitors, retinoids, corticosteroids, beta-blockers as well as estrogen can cause an increased triglyceride levels. Also take care of any underlying health condition that causes high triglycerides.
3. Avoid drinking alcohol as it has a significant effect on increased triglyceride levels. Consuming alcohol regularly can also cause or worsen increased triglycerides and other related health conditions.
4. Those who are overweight must try to reduce the triglyceride levels by decreasing the intake of calories to avoid the conversion of excess calories into triglycerides.
5. Eat fish as they are in omega-3 fatty acids or consume a supplement which has this source and try to consume at least 4 grams of omega-3 fatty acids daily. The dietary sources that have omega-3 fatty acids include salmon, flax seeds, mackerel, sardines, herring and albacore tuna.
6. Avoid eating sugary snacks and refined foods as they may increase the insulin production leading to an increased triglyceride levels. The snacks you eat must have high in soluble fiber like whole-grain crackers, raw fruits and vegetable.
7. Do regular exercises for about 30 minutes a day which can help reduce the triglyceride levels as well as cholesterol. It can also help to burn fat and calories.
8. Avoid eating eggs yolks, fatty meats or milk and eat fish instead of a red meat. Try to avoid eating foods that are high in trans-fat such as fried foods and most prepackaged foods.
