How to Motivate Yourself to Exercise

Winter months are often a time when we feel the most sluggish. Adverse climatic conditions, such as driving rain, wind and snow, often reduce our ability to exercise outdoors. However, you can choose the winter months as a time to change your approach to exercise. Some of the best forms of exercise are conducted indoors. Get to know the strength-training exercise machines at your local gym and discover how they can be used to reshape your body. Incorporate a new yoga or Pilates class, or a group programme, into your routine.

Rest is good for the body; quitting exercise is not. What happens to the body when an exercise routine ceases? The muscles become weaker and shrink in size. Muscles will not turn into fat overnight, but weight gain is a distinct possibility, especially if you continue to consume the same amount of calories as you did while exercising. Muscle loss can also slow down the metabolism, thus increasing the chances of weight gain.

Use the gym as a get-away zone. A workout can relax the body and the time after exercising can be used to enhance that feeling. For an ultimate wind-down, spend 15 minutes in the steam room or sauna, though avoid these zones if you are pregnant or feel dizzy. Pack a gym kit with luxury feel good products to promote a sense of wellbeing. Maintaining a healthy diet helps the body to exercise better. Eating protein-rich food can help you recover from exercise more effectively; leucine, a key ingredient in high-protein foods, helps to build muscle and balance blood sugar levels.
