A gentle massage can provide some joy and comfort for the baby. Infant massage will also help in creating a good bond with the baby and also give him a calming experience. There are different kinds of infant massage which can result in relaxation to nerve stimulation or gas relief.

1. Bottom-Up Massage: The best way to start an infant message is with gentle strokes at baby’s feet and start beyond the face and move up to make the baby comfortable with the massage. Find out cues which shows the baby is unhappy or disliking the massage and stop it very soon. The complete body massage is very important to provide over all relaxation.

2. Milking Massage: Slowly hold the baby’s limb and press and pull the hand away from the baby’s body in milking motion which will help stimulate flow in the limbs. This is the best option to move the baby’s limbs and muscle growth.

3. Digestive Massage: Massage the abdomen region if the baby is suffering from upset stomach, indigestion or gas. A small circular motion in the navel can help the baby to reduce the stomach upsets and muscle spasms.

4. Oil Massage: When performing the massage reduce the friction with baby by using natural oils like coconut, canola or olive oil. Do not use lotions or oils that contain chemicals as it can disturb the baby’s skin.
